Recognizing that forests and sustainable forest management can make a significant contribution to society, eradicating poverty and achieving the internationally agreed goals in the field of forestry, the UN stressed the need to focus joint efforts on raising awareness at all levels about the importance of the management, conservation and sustainable development of all types of forests for present and future generations.
The International Year of Forests will be held numerous events involving representatives of governments, forestry and related sectors, NGOs, academic and educational institutions, local communities and indigenous people. These events provide a unique opportunity for the participants and all stakeholders to discuss ways to address the most pressing challenges faced by today's forests and forestry in the world.
In the Council of Ministers approved an Action Plan for implementation in 2011 in the Republic of Belarus, the International Year of Forests, which will contribute to the preservation and enhancement of forest wealth of our country and strengthen its credibility on the international level.

From 16 to 23 April in Vileika experimental forestry will be a voluntary action "Week of wood - 2011" under the motto "New Forest - the descendants of a legacy". Will be directed at the participation of forestry workers and the public in resolving problems associated to the reproduction of forests, bringing order into the woods and landscaping of the forest fund.
